Ride1Up LMT’D V2 Review: A Torque-Sensing E-Bike for a “Ridiculous” Price

When shopping for an e-bike, you’ve probably asked yourself:

  • How much power do I really need?
  • What’s the big deal with a torque sensor?
  • Can I get a bike with all the features I want without overspending?

In the Ride1Up LMT’D V2 review, I’ll answer these questions and much more. Based on my independent review and test ride, it’s a sleek, affordable Class 3 e-bike that packs high-end features—like a torque sensor, a suspension fork with 100mm travel, and all-terrain tires—at a price that challenges the competition.

I’m Lisa at E-Biking Today showing you the Pros and Cons, Pricing, Who the LMT’D V2 is Best For, and What You Need to Know Before You Buy. Let’s break it all down so you can decide if this electric bike is the one for you.

The Ride1Up LMT’D V2: What It Gets Right

A Smooth, Powerful, Torque-Sensing E-Bike

Rated for 750 watts sustained, with 90 Nm of torque plus an integrated torque sensor, it’s a powerhouse on city streets and hills. The LMT’D V2 responded instantly to my pedaling force, making the ride feel natural and seamless. Climbing hills was doable on levels 2 and 3 but levels 4 & 5 got me up steep hills fast.

Plus, the motor delivered plenty of power when I needed it, without feeling jerky.

Custom AKM Hub Motor

What’s unique here is that it’s a 48V angled-gear hub motor. My ride was ultra quiet and the motor engaged smoothly, with a gradual speed increase from one pedal assist level to the next. I noticed the biggest difference going from level 4 to 5. The speed increased quickly and powerfully, making steep hills easy to conquer.

Capable Battery

With a 48V 14Ah LG cell battery, you’ll get a range of 30–50 miles, depending on pedal assist level, terrain, rider weight, and throttle usage.

And, it’s UL 2271 certified with a smart Battery Management System (BMS) for safety and longevity.

Top-Tier Braking and Safety

The Tektro 180mm hydraulic disc brakes stopped the bike fast and should be reliable even in wet conditions. Combined with the reflective sidewall tires, I appreciate that this ebike was designed with safety in mind.

Comfort Meets Functionality

The upright handlebars, gel saddle, and ergonomic grips create a ride that’s comfortable for long commutes or weekend adventures.  I loved the swept-back handlebars because I didn’t have to reach for them! Meanwhile, the SR Suntour suspension fork with 100mm of travel absorbed shocks from bumps and uneven roads, making my ride comfortable and uninterrupted. The front suspension allows fine-tuning for your weight. Or you can lock it out entirely for more efficient road riding.

Ride1Up LMT'D Groov-e Tires
Groov-e All-Terrain Tires

Durable, High-Performance Tires

The WTB GROOV-E tires strike a great balance between city and light off-road use. The built-in grooves channel water effectively. I noticed that they gripped well on hard-packed surfaces, thanks to the 60 TPI casing. This means that the tires are generally lighter and conform to the ground better than basic 30TPI bike tires. I didn’t feel rolling resistance or major shocks, which is why the ride felt so smooth.

Lightweight Yet Powerful

At 55 lbs, the LMT’D V2 strikes an impressive balance between weight and performance. Considering its robust features—like a powerful motor, torque sensor, and hydraulic brakes—this e-bike remains surprisingly lightweight compared to similar ebikes. I found it easy to maneuver without compromising on power.

Versatile Class 1-3 Electric Bike

The LMT’D V2, with 5 levels of pedal assist, can hit 28 mph once you unlock it from its 20mph max factory setting. I easily achieved a sustained 20mph without ever unlocking it. But if you’re a speed lover, check local laws to ensure it’s allowed in your area.

Assembly and Support

I like that Ride1Up offers good assembly resources and fast support. I needed a new tire valve and it came immediately, along with the necessary tools and instructions. However, I’ll tell you a potential con of assembly in a few.

Right now, I’d appreciate it if you’d take a moment to subscribe to E-Biking Today and ding the bell. You’ll have access to more ebike reviews and learn everything you need to know about e-biking life. Thanks!

Other Worthwhile Features

First, it has a left-side thumb throttle that gives you as much juice as you need when crossing streets or heading uphill. Additionally, you’ll get a Shimano 8-speed drivetrain, integrated front and rear lights, hardened alloy fenders, black stainless steel spokes, and a color display with adjustable speed settings and ride data.

Price

It’s plenty evident that the LMT’D V2 offers amazing value for the features!

Selling for $1595… or less! this stylish ebike includes features typically found on more expensive bikes. Torque sensors, quiet motors, and quality components in this price range are rare.

Drawbacks to Consider

1. DIY Assembly Required

As a direct-to-consumer bike, it requires some assembly upon delivery. If you’re uncomfortable with basic bike tools, you might need professional help, which adds to the overall cost.  Otherwise, although it’s not hard if you follow Ride1Up’s assembly video, be prepared to spend an hour or two assembling the bike. The basic tools came with the ebike but I also used a wrench and pliers to make tightening bolts easier.

Here is one tip:

Make sure you get the fork and stem fully seated. This means there should be no space in between any of these parts. And, the first one that goes in should be firmly pushed down into the opening.

2. Accessory Add-Ons

Although it includes fenders and lights, other accessories like racks are extra, which might be a downside for commuters looking for an all-in-one solution.

3. Low-Clearance Fenders

Because the fenders fit close to the tires, it’s hard to access the bolt on the rear tail light, making it a pain to install and tighten. However, you can deflate the tire as needed to have more access.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

There are a few things to consider before you buy so you don’t make a mistake…

Size and Fit: Finding the Right LMT’D V2 for You

The Ride1Up LMT’D V2 is designed to accommodate a wide range of riders, with thoughtful sizing options and a sturdy build. Here’s what you need to know about the fit:

Rider Height Range

By offering two frame styles with overlapping height ranges, most riders should find a fit that feels stable and comfortable.

The step-through (ST) frame prioritizes accessibility and comfort, making it an excellent choice for casual riders. Best suited for riders between 5’1″ and 6’2″ it’s ideal for those who prefer easier mounting and dismounting, which is particularly useful for shorter riders or those with limited mobility. At 5’1” I had about 1 inch left to lower the seatpost.

The XR frame is better suited for riders who value a stiffer frame and are comfortable with a higher standover height.

It’s designed for riders between 5’6″ and 6’4″ and offers a more traditional frame design for those who prefer a sportier feel.

Weight Capacity

The LMT’D V2 can support riders up to 300 lbs, making it a great choice for those looking for a durable and reliable e-bike that can handle heavy loads, including gear for commutes or casual rides.

The Range Depends on Your Ride Style

With a wide range of 30-50 miles, remember that heavy throttling or higher pedal-assist use will drain the battery faster, especially on hilly terrain.

Who Is the LMT’D V2 Best For?

This versatile electric bike is ideal for a range of riders. Urban Commuters will appreciate that it’s powerful enough for city traffic and equipped for safety, while weekend adventurers can go on long rides.

Additionally, riders who appreciate comfort and value will love the ride and premium features… without the premium price tag.

Final Thoughts: Does It Deliver?

My Ride1Up LMT’D V2 review and test ride revealed an outstanding e-bike for a ridiculously low price. With premium features like a torque sensor, ultra-quiet motor, hydraulic brakes, and high-performance tires, it’s highly competitive. While it’s not the quickest ebike to assemble, it’s worth the time if you’re looking for a fast, smooth, comfortable, and quiet ride.

Could this be the e-bike for your next ride?
